Smith & Fong Offers Urea-Formaldehyde-Free, FSC-Certified Bamboo Sports Flooring

San Francisco, Calif. - Bamboo flooring and plywood pioneer Smith & Fong Co. now offers urea formaldehyde-free, FSC-certified bamboo sports flooring for professional, institutional, corporate and educational environments.

Called PlybooSport, with three independently rated systems that meet both DIN and EN standards, this floor covers the range from basketball and volleyball to aerobics and dance.

“With the increase in “character”—or sapwood—in currently available maple sports floors, Plyboo®Sport brings back consistency in color and grain,” Smith & Fong president and founder Dan Smith said.

With superior stability, consistent longer lengths, and hardness equal to or greater than maple, PlybooSport bamboo flooring produces a higher quality product over the long or short term. DIN rated and EN standard systems are available for various activities.

PlybooSport can contribute points toward LEED MRc6: Rapidly Renewable Resources; MRc7: Certified Wood; and IEQ 4.4: Low-Emitting Materials (No Added Urea Formaldehyde).

Founded in 1989 and headquartered in San Francisco, Smith & Fong Co. was the first U.S. company to manufacture bamboo flooring in China for sale in North America, offering its initial product under the brand name Plyboo in 1993. In 1996 the firm began producing bamboo plywood, followed by coconut palm flooring and plywood products in 2000. Smith & Fong is committed to sustainability through innovation.
