Plyboo Blog

As some of you might know, palm is not new to Smith & Fong. Our work in palm began in 2001 with the development of the resource; subsequently learning our way around this fascinating and little understood non-wood material.

Since then, we have steadily grown our palm program with successful installations at The San Diego Central Library, Aveda Corporation, the Japanese Consulate, Hotel W, Starbucks, UCSF, and the Kansas City City Hall Building, to feature a few.

Several Reveal Collection C5 panels have found a prominent place in the redevelopment of the Tokyo Disney Celebration Hotel (formerly the Palm & Fountain Terrace Hotel), the fourth Disney hotel to operate in Japan; this one a simple, casual property designed specifically for families travelling together.

A big Texas "hats off" to Nancy and Paul Rice of Tech Products, and Shannon Meek of Inside Evolutions,  for wrangling  the "Best New Product” award for the Plyboo Linear Sound Collection at the Metrocon Expo and Conference in Dallas, Texas, last week.

Our Texas team built a quiet room in the middle of their booth to show off the noise reduction coefficient (NRC rating) of 0.7 for the carved bamboo Linear Sound Collection.

The use of Smith & Fong panels in ceiling applications is nothing new, and for the past decade or more, innovative interior designers and architects have come up with their own ideas of how to use Plyboo and Durapalm panel products for decorative ceiling applications. We have taken notice of this all-too-often overlooked decorative surface, and this summer we launched Plyboo Ceilings with a wide range of textures with design and function.

We’re very pleased to spotlight our most successful Canadian distributor, Bamboo Design & Architecture, led by Josée Lefrançois. Headquartered in Mont-Royal, QC, our relation dates back some years and has been very successful. Recently we’ve seen a nice uptick in the Canadian market and it is no doubt due to good products and good work on their part.
