Smith & Fong Co.’s palm re-launch

As some of you might know, palm is not new to Smith & Fong. Our work in palm began in 2001 with the development of the resource; subsequently learning our way around this fascinating and little understood non-wood material.

Since then, we have steadily grown our palm program with successful installations at The San Diego Central Library, Aveda Corporation, the Japanese Consulate, Hotel W, Starbucks, UCSF, and the Kansas City City Hall Building, to feature a few.

The primary sources for our palm products are both sugar and coconut palms that have reached the limit of their productive fruit-bearing cycle. Once they are determined to be commercially unproductive, they become available for harvesting, much like rubber or mango wood.

We have sourced our materials from a variety of Asian countries, although palm is abundant in many areas of the world.  Since the establishment of our Bangalore offices in 2014 we have focused our work this area on India, where there are many regions in which palm is abundantand integral to agriculture, cuisine and craft.

With a beautiful supply of well-grained and figured material, we are in the process of re-stocking with our traditional favorites as well as development new designs, textures and applications for 2017. Look for us at http://Durapalm.com.
